Simulation Vision & Gameplay Architecture

The Cattle Game places the player at the helm of an expanding commercial ranch over a 10-year career (40 distinct quarterly seasons). Unlike idle clickers, the game enforces realistic economic trade-offs between genetic pedigree improvements, pasture acreage upkeep, commodity price fluctuations, and high-stakes livestock show competitions.

Developed with React 19 and Tailwind CSS v4, the engine uses strict type interfaces (types.ts) and an isolated configuration matrix (config.ts) to ensure consistent economic balance across all five regional environments.

Core Simulation Subsystems

1. Multi-Species Genetics & Pedigree Engine

Players breed 4 distinct livestock species (Chicken, Pig, Cow, Horse) across 5 rarity tiers (Common 1.0x, Uncommon 1.5x, Rare 2.5x, Epic 4.0x, and Legendary 7.0x). The breeding barn resolves sire and dam traits to calculate inherited coat variants, temperament modifiers, and show circuit conformation ratings.

2. Seasonal Commodity Volatility Ticker

Commodity prices swing dynamically according to real agricultural demand curves:

  • Prime Beef (per cwt): Base $280. Surges in Summer (1.25x BBQ season); dips in Winter (0.9x).
  • Cured Pork: Base $145. Peaks in Winter (1.25x holiday hams and roasts); dips in Summer (0.95x).
  • Cold Storage Arbitrage: Players construct refrigerated storage silos to hold slaughtered inventory until prices rebound.

3. Procedural Event & Dialogue Orchestration

A deterministic rule and state engine drives dynamic, contextual commentary during livestock show circuit judging and live auction house bidding wars. Rather than generic responses, dialogue and judge feedback are dynamically assembled using exact animal statistics (breed traits, coat mutation inheritance, condition score, and halter rating).

4. Procedural Web Audio Sound Synthesizer

The audio engine (sound.ts) synthesizes cattle calls, auctioneer gavels, crowd applause, and ribbon fanfares procedurally via the browser's Web Audio API. This eliminates external MP3 loading latency and keeps the game client entirely self-contained.
